Salem United Methodist Church has a long and rich history. It is the oldest Methodist church and the fifth oldest church in Alamance County, North Carolina. The church was named “Salem,” meaning shalom or “peace” in the Hebrew language.
Sometime between 1770 and 1790, a church began meeting on the present site in the beautiful rolling countryside. Salem was served by circuit riders of the Methodist Episcopal Church until 1827, when it split from the Methodist Episcopal Church to become part of the Methodist Protestant Church.
The first frame church was built sometime after 1809, with a second structure built after 1855. The current church contains timber from the first two churches. It was renovated in 1950, and brick and stained glass windows were added.
In the 1990s, Salem was designated as a historic site by the Alamance County Historical Properties Commission.
Though we have a rich history, Salem is still a vibrant church, seeking to shine God’s light and minister to the community around us!

Then your bank prints and sends a check directly to the church, usually all at no cost to you. Talk to your banker about it or look on their website; here are some examples: State Employees’ Credit Union, Wells Fargo, Truliant, & PNC.
Whenever you give by cash or check, there are no processing fees—all of your gift goes to the ministries of the Church.
3. Give online! All you need to do is click on the "Online Tithe" button below to go to the tithing website, fill in your information, and complete your gift! There is a slight fee. Credit and debit card gifts have about a 3% fee and bank drafts (ACH/eCheck) have about a 1% fee. You’ll notice when you give, the “Cover Fees” box is checked so that your gift is increased to cover the processing fees so the church is able to get your entire gift. We have quarterly community meals and a back to school party.

Home Bound Ministry:
Salem offers a team of folks who visit our home bound members on a regular basis. They send cards, take small gifts and serve communion to help them realize that they are still a vital part of our church.
